On Thursday, March 30, Chevron hosted a Telephone Town Hall to review progress on the Refinery Modernization Project and status of enhanced safety measures and the reliability program.

This outreach effort is one element of the Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program (MMRP) that Chevron committed to implement to the City of Richmond as part of its approval of the Modernization Project, in an effort to promote and open dialogue between the Refinery and Richmond residents.

The MMRP, and the corresponding Modernization Project Reliability Program, are designed to enhance safety and reliability of operations as well as ensure that all mitigation measures and project approval conditions are implemented.

During the event, experts from Chevron Refinery provided updated information about the Modernization Project.

The Modernization Project is a $1 billion investment to replace older equipment with more modern technologies to create a newer, safer, cleaner refinery.

The improvements will result in an overall decrease in emissions, as well as safety enhancements that exceed regulatory requirements.

The project includes important community benefits, including $90 million for community programs including college scholarships, grants for nonprofits and funding to fight climate change.

Telephone Town Halls are one of the tools used by Chevron to engage with the community and have a conversation with residents about our operations.
