Federal lawmakers and local officials recently announced that the Port of Richmond will receive $11,224,449 in federal funding to support critical infrastructure upgrades. The investment is part of a larger $22 million package from the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) that also includes funding for the Port of Hueneme in Ventura County.

The funding was secured through the partnership of Rep. John Garamendi, U.S. Sens. Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla, and Rep. Julia Brownley.

“America’s economic strength is built on investments in our ports,” said Rep. Garamendi. “That’s why I’m proud to announce over $11 million in critical funding for the Port of Richmond. This investment reinforces the port’s vital role in our economy and our community.”

Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez characterized the award, administered by the Maritime Administration, as a significant victory for the city’s economic future and safety standards.

“This is welcome news for Richmond,” Mayor Martinez said. “The Port has long been a key part of Richmond’s economy. Investments like this build on our momentum and strengthen our position while improving safety and efficiency. Just as important, they create real opportunities for our residents.”

Recent engineering reports show the Port of Richmond requires roughly $228 million in repairs over the next decade to fix aging wharves and structural hazards.

“There’s more work ahead to ensure these resources translate into tangible benefits for our community, but this is a meaningful step in the right direction,” Martinez said.
