The Pinole Police Department Traffic Unit will set up a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 1333 San Pablo Ave. The checkpoint will run from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. to help keep roads safe during the holiday weekend.
Officers will briefly stop drivers to check for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and to make sure drivers have a valid license. Motorists should expect only short delays. Trained officers will also be on hand to evaluate drivers suspected of being impaired by drugs, which are an increasing factor in crashes.
The department says checkpoints like this help deter impaired driving and reduce crashes. From Jan. 1, 2023, through Nov. 30, 2025, Pinole police responded to 382 traffic collisions, including 70 with injuries and one fatal crash. Of those, 44 crashes involved impaired drivers, and officers made 59 DUI arrests during the same period.
