What could be more apropos for book lovers than a “Flirt & Tell” book club focusing on romance novels? Flor Hermosa coffee shop in Richmond is hosting the inaugural meeting of this book club Saturday, Aug. 30 at noon at its home on the grounds of Golden Gate Palms.
The concept for the Flirt & Tell book club was hatched by a trio of good friends, Darrylann Moore, Victoria Zaragoza and co-owner of the coffee shop, Alanda Topete Navarro, to build a like-minded community.
“I think we’re definitely, at this moment, focusing on romance novels,” said Moore, noting that she and Zaragoza read that genre the most. “So it’s kind of like, let’s find other people in the community who also love romance novels and make our own little romance community.”

“It’s definitely something that we all kind of need, away from our day-to-day work life,” Moore added, noting her favorite book at the moment is The Fastest Way to Fall by Denise Williams.
When the Flirt & Tell book club meets later this month, the group will hash out some of the fundamentals, such as what book they’ll read first and how often they’ll meet, over coffee and snacks. Moore is guessing the group will probably meet 1-2 times per month.
At the first meeting, the book club members will also take turns sharing a bit about themselves, their favorite books, hobbies and whatever else they’d like to add. Participants are encouraged to bring a book they’d like the group to read and to tell everyone a little about it.
Topping off the book club’s first meeting will be a reading goodie bag for everyone. “We’re kind of playing around with the idea of cute little pins and highlighters, maybe some stickers and we might make a bookmark with our book club name on it,” Moore revealed about the potential contents.
Flor Hermosa offers hot/iced coffee, drinks, baked goods and a beautiful outdoor seating area within the spectacularly lush environs of Golden Gate Palms, California’s largest subtropical nursery.
