A large police presence in the 4500 block of Florida Avenue in Richmond on Wednesday was related to a domestic disturbance call, according to police.
During the incident, the suspect eluded capture, but the Richmond Police Department says officers uncovered an assault rifle during a search of the residence where the suspect was reportedly located.
Police initially responded after the victim reported that her child’s father, identified as Javon Hudson, had arrived at her home while armed with an assault rifle. Hudson allegedly threatened the victim with the firearm. The victim was able to successfully flee the residence with her child, leaving Hudson alone inside the residence, according to police.
“When the victim called police, they reported that the suspect was in possession of an assault rifle and was threatening them,” police said.
Officers responded and, while setting a perimeter, saw Hudson exit the residence.
“From their vantage point, it appeared that the suspect saw responding officers and went back inside the residence,” police said. “Officers tried for several hours to make contact with the suspect to no avail. After securing a search warrant, the RPD SWAT team entered the residence to search for the suspect.”
It was determined that the suspect was no longer inside the home and had fled, apparently leaving behind his rifle.
“Luckily, no one was hurt in this incident,” police said. “Although the suspect eluded capture today, we are glad we recovered his firearm and look forward to hopefully seeing him again soon.”
