The Rosie the Riveter Open Water Swim on Saturday, May 24, will raise funds for Rosie the Riveter Trust, the official nonprofit partner of the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park.

Both seasoned open-water swimmers or first-timers are invited to sign up in this fun community swim.

The event will take place at Barbara and Jay Vincent Park at Richmond Marina from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the swim starting at noon.

Swimmers can choose to go 1.2 miles to Brooks Island and back, or 500 yards to the end of the jetty and back. A maximum of 100 swimmers can participate.

The event will include a potluck lunch, so bring a dish to share after the swim.

Also, bring water to stay hydrated, and of course a bathing suit, goggles, towel, sunscreen, hat and change of clothes. Fuel up before you hit the water with a pre-swim snack.

Parking and restrooms are available on site

“The swim takes place where 747 Liberty Ships were built and launched during WWII,” organizers note. “Six million women were among the workers who made the ships and planes, jeeps and other war needs across the country during this time. They proved to the world that they could do anything!”

Organizers invite the community to come whether or not they are swimming to help cheer from the shore and make new friends.
