A series of events celebrating art, history and community are approaching at the Richmond Museum of History & Culture, according to the museum.
Starting Sunday with an event marking the conclusion of the Art of the African Diaspora’s 28th annual exhibit at the Richmond Art Center and beyond—and the first satellite exhibit at the museum—and continuing with April events honoring the Tuskegee Airmen and traversing “Beyond Wellness,” there’s lots of enrichment in store for everyone.
The museum will be closing out its satellite exhibit of the Art of the African Diaspora Sunday, March 30 from 12–4 p.m. with a “Closing Reception” and “Vendors Day,” during which community members can meet the artists showing in their gallery. Featured artists with goods for sale will include Asual Aswad, Gathoni Kamau-Devers, Karen Janes, Jimi Evins and Cole Ware. Items such as posters, giclée prints and cards will be on sale, as will most of the art on display. RSVP here for the free-admission event.
The museum will join The Walking Ghosts of Black History Saturday, April 5 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. for a presentation that will honor the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, said the museum. Leigh Roberts and Lanelle Roberts Brent, the daughters of Col. George S. “Spanky” Roberts—the first African American aviation commander of the Tuskegee Airmen’s 99th Fighter Squadron—and their mother, Edith Roberts, founder of the Tuskegee Airmen Living History Team, will go “beyond the history books” to share the untold stories of the Tuskegee Airmen. RSVP here for this free-admission event.
“Reset, restore and reconnect with yourself in a meaningful way” Saturday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., when the “Beyond Wellness” event gets underway at the museum, according to organizers from Modern Curanderismo Events. Host Jessica Rodriguez, Pilates Instructor Kendal Au and Crystalline Energy Healer Jackie Barnes will lead participants through a Pilates session, crystalline energy healing and a Wellness Social. The immersive experience blends mindful movement, energetic healing and community connection to offer a new take on wellness. Purchase tickets ($55.20) here.
