Richmond police fatally shot a suspect following a 30-minute standoff Tuesday night, police said.

The incident unfolded at about 8:13 p.m. on the Union Pacific Railroad right of way just west of the 300 block of Carlson Blvd, near the Pullman Point Apartments.

According to the Richmond Police Department, the suspect was wanted on a probation violation warrant related to domestic violence charges.

“The subject refused to cooperate with officers, and a standoff ensued,” police said. “Officers spent approximately 32 minutes attempting to de-escalate the situation and reach a peaceful resolution. At approximately 8:53 p.m., an officer-involved shooting occurred, and the wanted subject sustained fatal injuries.”

The initial police report does not include further details on what occurred in the moments leading up to the shooting. Per protocol, the Contra Costa Law Enforcement Involved Fatal Protocol was invoked and the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office responded to investigate.

The RPD stated it is “committed to a thorough, transparent investigation.” The investigation is underway at the scene and more information will be released to the public on the incident as it becomes available, police said.
