Richmond Fire and Police Toy Program ushers in the season of giving

By Kathy Chouteau

The Richmond Fire and Police Toy Program is making the season merry for 600 families in need thanks to toy, bike and program donations from the greater community.

Families have already preregistered for the program, however donations are still needed leading up to the event on Dec. 21 at a location disclosed to the pre-registrants.

“Your support of our annual toy drive makes a real difference for children and families in Richmond,” said the Richmond Police Department on Facebook. “Every toy donated brings joy to a child and hope to a family. Let’s unite to make this toy drive a success!”

Community members can drop off new, unwrapped toys at any Richmond Fire Station. Since the fire crew might be responding to a call when supporters stop by, toy donors can either wait until they return, stop by at another time, or try another fire station. Drop off locations in Richmond include: Station 61-140 W. Richmond Ave., Station 62-1065 7th St., Station 63-5201 Valley View Rd., Station 64-4801 Bayview Ave., Station 66- 4100 Clinton Ave., Station 67-1131 Cutting Blvd. and Station 68-2904 Hilltop Dr.

A partner of the Richmond Fire and Police Toy Program—the Richmond Rotary Toy Program—is also accepting donations for bikes for children this holiday season. To buy a kid a bike, the donation amount is $120/each including the helmet. For multiple bikes, donors can enter an amount or write a check in multiples of $120. Checks can be made payable to the Richmond Rotary Club and sent to 3260 Blume Drive, Suite 410, Richmond, CA 94806.
