El Cerrito police seek public’s help in solving sexual battery case

El Cerrito police are asking for the public's help in identifying a person of interest in a sexual battery incident on Wednesday, Nov. 13. A man reportedly approached a "sign and hearing impaired woman" who was walking on Stockton Avenue and slapped her buttock before running off, police said. The incident occurred near Elm Street around 3:30 p.m.  The man was described as tall with a thin to medium build wearing a gray or white top, dark bottoms and white shoes. Video surveillance showed a man fitting that description following the woman on Stockton Avenue just before the crime, police said. Police are calling that individual a person of interest. They are asking the public for any information about his whereabouts or about the investigation in general. Also, residents living near the crime scene are asked to check their own video surveillance recordings to see if they have any images or video related to this crime. Contact Det.
