Washington Elementary PTA is set to celebrate its second annual “Kermés ¡Viva Cultura!,” a traditional outdoor Latin American festival, slated for Sept. 20 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Point Richmond.
The free-admission event for the school’s students, families and the community will feature food, live music, small artisan vendors and resources that “reflect the beauty of our Spanish-speaking cultures and customs,” according to event organizers on Facebook.
Organizers also noted about the event that it’s an opportunity for students to see the language they’re learning inside the classroom being reflected outside in their local community.
On hand to entertain the crowd that day will be the Cabanijazz Project; TrioSinLio; Rodrigo Vargas; Melissa Cruz; and special performances by Marinera Norteña; Danza Azteca; and Andy Cruces.
Attendees can expect plenty to please the palate, with Micoachán Burgers; Tinitime; El Sol; Kona Ice; and Mi Casita Mariscos on the scene.
In addition to the school’s PTA, the event is bolstered by a whole host of community sponsors, including: Chevron, Sims Metal, East Brother Beer, Windchaser Wine, Republic Services, Point Richmond Music, Point Richmond Business Association and the Point Richmond Neighborhood Council.
