Here’s the scoop: Destenny’s Ice Cream in Richmond just celebrated a sweet milestone.

Last weekend, owners Janeth Loera and her daughter Destenny Lopez marked 11 years in business with a celebration at their store on 23rd Street in Richmond. Nachos and slices of cake were served in addition to ice cream.

“We put so much love into each dessert or drink we make here.”

“Everybody had such a wonderful time,” said Loera, whose 8-year-old daughter Alexa helps in the shop from time to time. “We love our customers, and we want them to be happy.”

The family-run ice cream and dessert shop serves up Mitchell’s Ice Cream out of San Francisco, and other sweet treats, including homemade cakes, lemonade with sparkling water and a wide variety of other blended, refreshing drinks. The Ice Rebels and Creamy Rebels are must-haves from the menu.

Another popular item is the Mangonada. It is made from shaved mango syrup and chamoy, which is made from pickled fruit. It is served sweet and sour and comes with a scoop of mango ice cream, with about a half dozen pieces of mangos on the side, and a piece of Tamarind candy.

“I enjoy making desserts and seeing our customers happy,” Loera said. “We put so much love into each dessert or drink we make here.”

Loera was born in Honduras, and her parents moved to Oakland first, then to San Pablo in 2008. She has lived here since. Her daughters Destenny and Alexa were born here.
