Actor Alonso Saravia of Hercules checked in with the Standard to share that his latest movie, Atlas—starring Jennifer Lopez—is opening today on Netflix just in time for Memorial Day weekend.
In the drama Lopez plays Atlas Shepherd, a data analyst who distrusts artificial intelligence. She embarks on a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she has a mysterious past, according to Netflix. When her plans take a left turn, she has to trust AI to save the future of humanity. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs 1 hour and 38 minutes.
For his part, Saravia played a centurion, or an AI soldier. He shot his scenes for 10 days two years ago at an abandoned cement factory in Cupertino. The Pinole Valley High alum worked alongside fellow actors Simu Liu and Sterling K. Brown, but not Lopez, whose scenes were later added via CGI.
The Pinole Valley High alum scored his first acting gig working on the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why after reading about a casting call in the Standard. He’s been checking in with us ever since to keep us updated on his acting career.
Some of Saravia’s past film work has included The Matrix Resurrections, Ant Man & the Wasp, Bullet Train and Father Stu, sharing the screen with the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves. He has also done national commercials and a global employee video for Apple.
Earlier this year, Saravia ran into Wahlberg at the Danville Safeway, who was in the Bay Area promoting his tequila Flecha Azul. As the Standard previously reported, the actors worked together on the 2022 film, Father Stu.
