Black Star BBQ—formerly known as Black Star Pirate BBQ—is relaunching as a food truck in the parking lot of Baltic Kiss in Point Richmond.
While Chef/Owner Tony Carracci emphasizes, “I am still a pirate,” he’s going with a punchier name to accompany the popular eatery’s reincarnation from a Point San Pablo Harbor restaurant to a food truck serving one dish with a choice of meat and sides.
The restaurant closed approximately one year ago, with the food truck incarnation now celebrating its seventh week of cooking up a storm Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 5 or 6 p.m., depending on when it sells out. It’s currently closed on weekends, but Chef Carracci looks to open on Saturdays and Sundays by early February 2024.
This time around, Chef Carracci said Black Star BBQ is “leaner and meaner,” by featuring one dish—a BBQ Bowl—offering the choice of meat (Brisket, pulled pork, ribs or chicken, and smoked turkey on Fridays) and two sides (Cowboy beans, mac & cheese, black eyed peas, potato salad or coleslaw). The dish is $15 and is served up as an instant lunch, per the chef, who said his famous corn bread can be added on for extra.
Amid the food truck’s early days, Chef Carracci said the brisket, cowboy beans and potato salad are his most popular BBQ Bowl combo, with mac & cheese also being a fan favorite. “Nobody walks away from here hungry,” he said.
The food truck is near a large courtyard with picnic tables to accompany about 70 people, with yet another picnic table adjacent to the truck.
As of now, Chef Carracci says the Black Star BBQ food truck is stationary, however, he is open to traveling for special events. He’s currently thinking about whether or not to offer delivery, but added he will likely do DoorDash.
When asked how he feels about relaunching Black Star BBQ, Chef Carracci said “It’s the ‘funnest,’ most rewarding thing that I’ve done in a long time. I love it…I have such a good time. He quickly added, “Come play wit’ us!”
Chef Carracci also owns the Baltic Kiss, which is the music venue, cocktail lounge and eatery that the Black Star BBQ food truck parks behind. Find the food truck midway along Point Richmond’s Railroad Avenue in the large parking lot.
