Two people killed, another injured in shooting on 23rd Street

Two people were killed and a third person was injured in a shooting in the 900 block of 23rd Street Friday night, police said.

The Shotspotter gunshot detection system alerted police to shots fired in the area of 23rd Street and Garvin Avenue. Calls from the public about the shooting started coming in at 7:46 p.m., according to Richmond police spokesperson Sgt. Donald Patchin.

One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, while a second victim died after being transported to the hospital, Sgt. Patchin said. A third victim is being treated at the hospital.

The victims’ identities were not immediately available.

The homicides are under investigation and no arrests have been made, police said.

The shooting marks seven homicides in Richmond in 2023.
