Registration is open for the Richmond Half Steppers track club.

The long-running club has begun condition at 10 a.m. on Saturdays at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Harbour Way. The season starts in the new year, with weekend track meets and three weekday practices per week. The club has a sliding scale for membership. All abilities are welcome.

Coach Johnny Holmes established the Richmond Half Steppers Track Club in 1968 as a community based organization. The club serves youth under age 18, with a focus on middle and high school levels, and participates in local, state and even national competitions.

According to the club, the club aims to develop and stress personal discipline, team spirit, sportsmanship, and self-esteem and emphasize nutrition and age-appropriate training. Many participants have potential and possibilities of becoming elite athletes on the college or university level. The Richmond Half-Steppers has produced 50 national champions, seven NFL players, and also a judge and several attorneys, among many other professions, according to its website.
