Richmond police are investigating two fatal shootings last week, one that occurred Saturday afternoon, claiming the life of a 33-year-old Hayward man, and another that occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 16, claiming the life of a 32-year-old Richmond man.
The most recent homicide occurred at about 2:45 p.m. in the Southside Park near S. 6th Street and Virginia Avenue, Richmond police spokesperson Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said. A 33-year-old Hayward man, whose name wasn’t being released until his family is notified, was pronounced dead at the scene, Pomeroy said.
Further details of the shooting weren’t released. No suspects are in custody at this time.
“Homicide detectives are working some solid leads as of this time,” Pomeroy said.
In a separate fatal shooting on Tuesday, Aug. 16, police responded to an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Aberdeen Way at about 4 p.m. on reports of a victim of gunfire. The victim, identified as Antonio Wright, 32, of Richmond, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The homicide is under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.
Saturday’s fatal shooting marked the city’s 15th homicide of 2022. At this time last year, there were 13 homicides.
