The most recent homicide occurred at about 2:45 p.m. in the Southside Park near S. 6th Street and Virginia Avenue, Richmond police spokesperson Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said. A 33-year-old Hayward man, whose name wasn’t being released until his family is notified, was pronounced dead at the scene, Pomeroy said.

Further details of the shooting weren’t released. No suspects are in custody at this time.

“Homicide detectives are working some solid leads as of this time,” Pomeroy said.

In a separate fatal shooting on Tuesday, Aug. 16, police responded to an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Aberdeen Way at about 4 p.m. on reports of a victim of gunfire. The victim, identified as Antonio Wright, 32, of Richmond, was pronounced dead at the scene.
