A Point Richmond hair studio that recently moved 25 ft. down the street has opened up a world of new business possibilities at its new location.
Beauty by Nature Hair Studio, owned by Richmond native Wyvonne Brown and currently marking its 10th year in business, now makes its home at 133 Park Place—the space once occupied by the local Starbucks.
The move to the larger space has enabled Brown to expand her business offerings for all textures of hair from natural hair styling and cutting, coloring, hair extensions, braids and silk press, etc. to soon include facials, waxing, eyebrows, eyelashes, nails and more. Brown, who also has her own hair care product line on sale, is currently looking to hire an esthetician and nail technician to help provide the new services.
The added room at the hair studio’s new location has also been “transformed into a venue for small events,” said Brown. The space can accommodate up to 75 guests and the business recently hosted a bridal fair there, as well as a birthday party.
When asked how the new location is working out for her, Brown said, “Awesome! It’s going really well.” She added some insight into her winning formula, saying that “we operate in excellence here at Beauty by Nature” and “treat our customers like celebrity clients” because they mean so much to us. “I consider it bringing Hollywood into the Point.”
When it comes to the name of her business—Beauty by Nature Hair Studio—Brown says that it was inspired by her personal motto, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever,” (John Keats), as well as her belief that “we’re all a beauty of nature.”
Brown’s interest in hair styling was first sparked when she started working for Curley Miller at Cuttin’ Up Hair Salon in Richmond. She worked for Miller for 20 years, who both inspired and encouraged her to pursue her long-held dream of owning her own business.
Brown, who had visited the Point from the time “it was a dirt road,” and always wanted to start a business there, drove to the area every week for a year to scope it out until the right space opened up. She approached the property manager and went on to launch her business at its first location. These days Miller, who encouraged Brown to fulfill her dream so long ago, is now working for her.
