The victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision in San Pablo on Friday night has been identified as 19-year-old Ruben Vasquez-Mendez, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.
Officers responded to the area of Giant Road at John Avenue about 10:12 p.m. and found Vasquez-Mendez suffering from severe injuries in the roadway, according to the San Pablo Police Department. He succumbed to his injuries, police said.
With help from witnesses at the scene and public safety cameras, investigators identified a silver 2005 Dodge Magnum as the suspect vehicle and later arrested Duglus Rodas-Reyes, 30, of Richmond, on suspicion of being the driver who caused the fatal crash, police said.
“Intoxication has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the collision,” police said.
