A 40-year-old Richmond man was found stabbed to death in San Pablo Tuesday morning, and a suspect is in custody in connection with the homicide, according to the San Pablo Police Department.

Police responded to the area of Fillmore Street at about 7:52 a.m. regarding a man lying facedown on the ground in a vacant lot. The victim was found deceased with multiple stab wounds in his upper torso. His identity is being withheld pending notification to his family, police said.

Detectives learned the victim had been involved in a physical altercation the previous day, close to where his body was located. He was stabbed several times during that altercation, police said.

“The fight was reportedly initiated over a dispute over personal property,” police said.

Detectives identified 35-year old Don Lee King of Richmond as a suspect. At 2:38 p.m. Tuesday, King was arrested in front of his residence in the 900 block of 8th Street in Richmond, police said. King was subsequently booked into Contra Costa County Jail on charges of homicide.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the San Pablo Police Investigations Division at 510-215-3150. All calls can remain anonymous.
