Two people were injured, one critically, in separate shootings in Richmond on Tuesday that appear related, police said.

Police responded to two ShotSpotter gunshot detection activations in the 400 block of 20th Street at 4:39 p.m. and found multiple expended rifle and pistol casings on scene. A victim transported himself to a local hospital with one gunshot wound to his lower extremity and is expected to survive, police said.

Fewer than five minutes after the initial shooting, the RPD Communications Center received multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting in the area of 12th Street and Bissell Avenue. At the scene, a victim was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in a vehicle that had collided with a parked car, police said. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

“Investigators believe both incidents are related, and are seeking witnesses who may have seen a newer-model white Ford Mustang around the time of either incident,” police said.
