A Caltrans contractor suffered major injuries this morning after being struck by a vehicle on the Bayview Avenue on-ramp to westbound Interstate Highway 580, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The vehicle fled the scene following the collision.
The CHP responded to the scene at 5:19 a.m. The contractor was subsequently life-flighted to a trauma center.
“The preliminary investigation has a dark colored sedan colliding into a Caltrans contractor,” the CHP said. “The contractor was preparing to shut down lanes as part of a construction detail. Following the collision, the dark sedan fled the scene.”
The CHP doesn’t have a license plate for the suspect vehicle or a description of the driver.
