Richmond police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old man early this morning.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Brookside Drive at about 12:40 a.m. and found community members providing assistance to John Louis Wright-Roberts III, who had been stabbed multiple times in his upper torso, police said.

Wright-Roberts III, described by police as an unsheltered member of the Richmond community who frequented the Calli House Youth Center at 845 Brookside Drive, was conscious and talking to officers while awaiting medical care. His condition, however, deteriorated as he was being transported by ambulance to Kaiser Richmond, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Detectives are following up on leads in the case, which marked the 16th homicide in Richmond this year.

“There have been no arrests made at the time of this release nor is a motive known,” police said.
