An online fundraiser has been launched to help the proprietors of Point Richmond deli and eatery, Aky’s Café, who have suffered some serious business and personal health setbacks over the past couple of months.
Aky’s husband and business partner, Mohammad, was recently in the hospital due to heart issues that culminated in his recent open heart surgery. It’s the latest in a series of challenges for the couple in recent years, including an eviction from their previous location, a fire that destroyed their home, and the impacts to their business from the pandemic, according to supporters.
The good news is that Mohammad “now has a ‘happy heart'” per his surgeon. He just returned home as he begins to regain his strength. The café is currently closed as Aky cares for her husband during his recovery.
Friends have set up a fundraiser to help with expenses and medical bills. To donate to the fundraiser, click here. Those preferring to mail a check can make it out to: Akram Soltani, 201 Tewksbury Ave., Richmond, CA, 94801.
