The first Saturday of October will usher in the 2019 Point Richmond Fall Fest, which will offer up a delightful cornucopia of entertainment and activities for this year’s attendees while also fundraising to support local nonprofits, the Washington School PTA and the Amazon Rainforest.
Slated for Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Park Place Avenue in downtown Point Richmond, the Fall Fest will feature food and drinks, as well as activities such as pumpkin decorating, face painting, carnival games, video game truck, Zumba lesson by Weigh of Life (11-11:45 a.m.), hula dancing performance (12-12:45 p.m.), live rock & roll by Richmond’s GTS band (1-3 p.m.) and more.
A main highlight of this year’s fest will be the “First Annual Point Richmond Sidewalk Arts Festival: Amazon Rainforest Edition” from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the proceeds of which will benefit the Amazon Rainforest via the nonprofit, Amazon Watch. According to fest organizers, artists will “purchase” an assigned sidewalk square in advance that will be approximately 40” x 48” for $20. Two hours will be allotted to complete the works of art.
“All artists and aspiring artists are invited to spend a great day working on their chalk masterpiece while listing to music and enjoying entertainment…Thanks to our sponsors, we also have some great awards for the chalk art contest winners,” said event organizers in an email correspondence.
Artists will be judged by a panel of local community members in the arts, with the top three contestants being awarded prizes. Judging of the chalk art will take place from 12:30 to 1 p.m. and awards will be presented on stage at 3 p.m.
Sponsored by the Point Richmond Business Association, the contest’s top-notch awards will include: A sailing trip for up to six people on a brand new Beneteau 38.1, courtesy of Passage Yachts (first prize); dinner for four at Anaviv’s Table (second prize); and dinner for two at Anaviv’s Table (third prize). A children’s prize will include a gift certificate to Mom & Pop Art Shop. For questions about the contest, contact Sabrina Richter at [email protected].
