A San Pablo man was arrested last week on charges of murdering his wife and her mother, who went missing last fall.

On Monday, Phuc Vo, 40, was charged with two counts of murder with a special circumstance enhancement in connection with a missing persons case involving 40-year-old Tho Ly and 74-year-old Que Tran.

Vo’s wife and mother-in-law were reported missing Sept. 6, 2023, according to the San Pablo Police Department. They reportedly left in their 2017 Honda Fit to Southern California after a family argument, but police detectives could not corroborate that information and their whereabouts were unknown.

Further investigation by San Pablo police uncovered inconsistencies in Vo’s statement regarding the victims’ vehicle, which was located in Oakland on Dec. 5, police said.

“Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, it was believed Vo had direct involvement in the disappearance and murders of Tho Ly and Que Tran,” police said.

On Feb. 29, a search warrant was served at a home in the 1900 block of Sutter Avenue, where Vo was taken into custody.

Few details about the motive or circumstances behind the alleged crimes were shared in the initial police statement.

“This is an ongoing investigation and the location of the victims’ remains are not confirmed,” police said.

Vo remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility.
