San Pablo police used surveillance cameras including Automated License Plate Reader technology to help identify and arrest the suspect in a shooting on Interstate 80 this week.

During the early morning hours Wednesday, officers responded to Shotspotter gun detection activation on Interstate Highway 80 between El Portal Drive and San Pablo Dam Road, police said.

A short time later, a frightened victim drove to the police department to report that her car had been shot. Officers learned the victim had been chased through San Pablo by another vehicle prior to the shooting on the freeway.

“Our officers quickly utilized city surveillance and ALPR cameras to identify the suspect vehicle,” police said.

Detectives identified the suspect and tracked him down and arrested him Thursday in Richmond. The suspect wasn’t immediately identified, but police shared a photo of him.
