The Richmond Commission on Aging and R-Transit are preparing to host the 3rd Annual Senior Transportation Workshop and Townhall on April 30.

The free event will take place from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Richmond Auditorium lobby at 403 Civic Center Plaza. The primary goal of the gathering is to increase awareness of local travel options and help older residents navigate the city with greater confidence and independence.

This year’s programming centers on the theme of independent aging with a specific focus on bicycling and e-bikes. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about R-Transit services and the Richmond MOVES program while exploring a variety of accessible transportation methods. Representatives from regional mobility programs will be on-site to provide information regarding safety protocols, service eligibility, and the enrollment process for various transit benefits.

The workshop will feature guest presenter Chalo Buckman from Mobility Matters and moderator Debbie Toth of Choice in Aging. A wide range of community and regional partners are scheduled to participate, including AC Transit, BART, Lyft, Clipper, and the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA). Other organizations such as the Transbay Coalition, Glydways, and Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services will also be present to discuss transportation equity for the aging population.

The townhall portion of the afternoon aims to foster open dialogue between seniors and service providers. Residents can engage directly with city partners and transit agencies on their specific mobility needs and challenges. Members of the public who require additional information about the event are encouraged to contact the Richmond Community Services and Recreation department at (510) 620-6793.
