Allen Tai was recently appointed as the City of San Pablo’s new community development director. Tai is scheduled to begin his role on May 1.
He joins San Pablo from the City of Alameda, where he has served as the Planning, Building, and Transportation Director since 2023. His 25-year career in municipal planning and leadership includes roles with the City of San Jose from 2006 to 2013. His background includes experience in housing, economic development, and sustainability.
In this position, Tai will oversee San Pablo’s Building, Planning, and Residential Housing Inspection Services. He will lead regulatory compliance with the California Department of Housing and Community Development and manage local housing programs.
“San Pablo is fortunate to have Allen Tai join our city organization,” said City Manager Matt Rodriguez. “He brings extensive experience in advance housing, economic development and responsive public services serving in a culturally diverse and politically complex community in the Bay Area region.”
Tai holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Policy and Development from the University of Southern California and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State University. He is a certified member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and a LEED Accredited Professional.
