A knife-wielding suspect was fatally shot by police officers in Richmond Monday evening, according to the Richmond Police Department.
At around 5 p.m., police dispatch received a 911 call stating an armed subject inside a residence in the 400 block of 1st Street was threatening to kill people. The reporting party indicated the individual was armed with at least one knife at the time of the call.
Officers responded to the scene and could hear a disturbance coming from inside the residence. While en route, dispatch informed officers that the suspect had armed himself with a second edged weapon.
According to police, upon arrival officers approached the front door, announced their presence, and were immediately confronted by the armed individual standing just outside the doorway, and armed with at least one knife. At that time, two officers discharged their firearms, killing the armed individual, who died on the scene.Â
The Contra Costa Law Enforcement Involved Fatal Protocol has been invoked, and the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has responded to investigate the incident.Â
