The Richmond City Council is advancing a proposal to designate an official tree for the city.

Currently, Richmond does not have a designated city tree. The proposed resolution allocates up to $5,000 to have city staff work with councilmembers and the Urban
Forest Advisory Committee to d
evelop a curated list of candidate native species.

An online survey will be launched to engage residents in voting, and community outreach will be conducted. The chosen tree will be planted and celebrated at a dedicated site at Civic Center Plaza during Arbor Day, observed on the third Wednesday in October.

City officials and committee representatives are asked to present survey outcomes to Council by the first meeting in October.
