MCE will become the primary electricity provider for Hercules homes and businesses starting this April, although customers in the city can still choose to switch back to PG&E if they’d prefer.

Beginning this month, all Hercules customers will receive direct mail from MCE, and customers with email addresses on file with PG&E will then receive follow-up notification emails in March, April and May.

No action is required for Hercules residents unless they wish to opt out of MCE and switch back to PG&E. Contact MCE at [email protected] or (888) 632-3674 for more information about this process. There is no charge for opting out of MCE before or within the first 60 days of service, according to the city.

MCE offers renewable power to over 1.5 million people in Contra Costa, Marin, Napa and Solano counties. The public gency is governed by a board of elected officials from the cities it serves.

The Hercules City Council voted to go with MCE, and in 2023 the California Public Utilities Commission approved it.

“MCE’s generation rates are cheaper than PG&E’s and include more clean, renewable energy, so Hercules residents are expected to save money on their electricity bills while reducing their carbon emissions,” the city states.
