Board of Supervisors appoint Captain Jane Andreotti (middle) to fill the role as Interim Animal Services Director.

Capt. Jane Andreotti was appointed as Contra Costa County’s interim Animal Services director during a special meeting of the County Board of Supervisors Thursday.

Capt. Andreotti will assume the role on Jan. 16 and will hold the position until a permanent director is hired, according to the County.

Current Director Beth Ward is set to depart her role on Jan. 19 as her family is moving out of state. Ward has held the position since November 2015.

Capt. Andreotti brings more than 30 years of public sector experience and previously served in various roles with the Berkeley and Walnut Creek police departments. She joined CCAS in 2009, progressing through the ranks as an Animal Services officer, lieutenant and ultimately captain.

Capt. Andreotti said she was honored to assume the role during this transition period. Federal Glover, chair of the Board of Supervisors, said he is confident the experienced captain will maintain stability at Animal Services during the County’s recruitment process.

“With a steadfast commitment to the welfare of our community’s animals, I’m very confident that our dedicated team will continue to ensure quality services and prioritize the well-being and safety of the people and animals of Contra Costa County,” Capt. Andreotti said.

Details on the recruitment process for a permanent Animal Services director will be made public in the coming weeks, according to the County.
