The Contra Costa County Clerk’s Office will officiate extra weddings on “Twosday” Feb. 22, a special palindrome date that’s wildly popular for ceremonies. That day, a fitting 22 ceremonies will be performed at the County Clerk’s office at 555 Escobar St. in Martinez between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Acting Assistant Clerk-Recorder Laura Wilson said that, given the popularity of palindrome dates for weddings, the staff is “getting into the spirit this year with a very special ‘Twosday’ coming up.” The office is officiating almost double the number of ceremonies it typically offers to accommodate the added interest.
According to Wilson, the extra Twosday appointments filled up almost immediately.
Even though Twosday wedding appointments have filled up, other dates are still available for ceremonies at the County Clerk’s Office, which permits up to five people to join couples on their special day.
As part of the process, couples are required to get a marriage license before their ceremony; same-day licenses are available at the County Clerk’s office in Martinez. The public marriage license fee is $86, or a confidential license is $90. The fee for a civil marriage ceremony is $60.
