El Cerrito police released video surveillance Tuesday of a man leaving the Wagreens store with $500 worth of unpaid items last week after threatening employees who tried to stop him.
Officers responded to the store on San Pablo Avenue near Cutting Boulevard just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16. They learned the man entered the Walgreens and immediately began loading up items from a display into the store’s merchandise baskets, police said.
He was confronted by store employees and security at the door and he tried to force his way out. He then “drew a baton from his waistband and threatened the employees,” police said.
“He was also reported to have a firearm in his waistband,” police said.
The staff let him go and called police. The suspect fled in a gold Mercedes Benz which has parked nearby. He was described as a black man, approximately 40 years old, wearing a white baseball cap and a blue shirt.
The El Cerrito Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Humberto Rivera at (510) 215-4422 or at [email protected].
