Plexiglas shields have been installed at Save Mart, FoodMaxx and Lucky store registers throughout California as an added measure to prevent possible spread of COVID-19, the Save Mart Companies announced on Saturday.
The shields “will serve as an added safety measure that will help provide space between checkout employees and customers,” the company said, which added it has also increased the frequency and intensity of surface cleaning in stores, particularly at check stands, shopping carts and common areas.
The company also announced it is hiring to meet the demand and increasing pay for temporary and permanent employees during the shelter-in-place order.
“We are committed to ensuring a safe shopping experience for our customers and employees,” Hal Levitt, senior vice president of retail operations, said in the statement.
