Tell us about your job at Chevron.
As a Safety Analyst, I compile our safety metrics for reporting, and I look for trends to share with stakeholders. The analysis I prepare helps us customize and focus our safety training for employees.
What’s your favorite part of working for Chevron?
I love working for a company that supports my work and involvement in this community. Richmond is where I live, it’s where my friends live, and it’s where I’m raising my family. It’s important for me to invest back into my community.
What was your first role with Chevron and how did you originally find out about the job?
I used to work in real estate, but when the market crashed a few years ago, I started looking for other opportunities. I always thought Chevron was a good company. I was lucky to get my foot in the door as a contractor and was later hired on as a full-time employee.
What qualifications or education did you need to get the job you have now?
Chevron is a great company because they reward hard work. I don’t have a college degree, but I have been able to move quickly through the ranks because of my good work ethic and strong desire to do my best.
Do you have any advice for Richmond residents interested in working for Chevron?
Make sure your resume is up to date and utilize the programs available for job seekers through the City of Richmond. If you are looking to get hired on in operations or maintenance, definitely take advantage of our Regional Occupational Program.
You mentioned a passion for community service. What are some of the ways in which you give back?
I work with the Bay Area Rescue Mission (BARM), Rubicon and Brighter Beginnings, three organizations that Chevron also supports. I am also passionate about supporting Chevron’s Fuel Your School program, which helps raise money for K-12 teachers in West County’s public schools.
Tell us about the Fuel Your School program – and how you help.
During the month of October, Chevron donates $1 with every fill-up of 9 gallons or more in Richmond to help fund materials and supplies for local public schools through DonorsChoose.org. Chevron employees also receive $10 vouchers that can be used on the site. I research schools with the highest needs and volunteer to help facilitate donations from my colleagues.
What’s a common misperception about Chevron in the community that you want to clarify?
A lot of people see Chevron as an entity and not the people behind it. I know that the people I work with take pride in doing a good job, improving their performance and caring about the community and environment in which we work. Our performance records prove it.
