Former NBA player Chris Herren, now a motivational speaker after surviving his battle with drug addiction, is scheduled to speak to middle school and high school students and their families in San Pablo on Dec. 3.

The San Pablo Police Department is hosting the free presentation, which will take place at 6 p.m. at Contra Costa College’s Knox Performing Arts Center, 2600 Mission Bell Drive. Attendees can RSVP using the QR code on the image.

Herren, who starred at Fresno State before being drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the second round ahead of the 1999-2000 season. He also played for the Boston Celtics as well as multiple professional teams overseas.

He struggled with addiction for most of his career, but lost his career and nearly his family due to the disease. He has been alcohol and drug-free since Aug. 1, 2008, and has since spoken to over 2 million students in order to make a difference in their lives.

“Through inspiring presentations Herren empowers the audience and guides students to rethink how we look at the disease of addiction, from the last day to the first,” organizers said.
