Numerous community complaints about abandoned and illegally parked vehicles have prompted increased enforcement by the Richmond Police Department.

The RPD is starting its enhanced monitoring in the city’s Central District, with officers focusing on vehicles that are double parked, parked in red zones, parked in no parking areas, parked on the sidewalk and that appear abandoned or unregistered, police said.

“Fines start at $50.00 for red zone violations, with penalties increasing depending on the violation,” police said.

Vehicles with expired registration in excess of six months or that remained parked on city streets for longer than 72 hours can be towed and impounded, police said.

“Your cooperation not only makes it safer for pedestrians and other motorists, but it helps keep our neighborhoods clean and free of blight,” police said.
