Want to offer help to the victims of the Maui wildfire, but don’t know how to take that first step?
Richmond Firefighters Local 188 is doing what it does best by coming to the aid of people in serious need—in this case, those impacted by the Maui wildfire—by urging locals to support a relief fund. The Maui wildfire has destroyed the historic town of Lahaina and killed 96 people, making it the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than 100 years, according to CNN.
Local 188 posted on Facebook that the California Fire Foundation has launched a relief fund for citizens and firefighters impacted by the August 2023 Maui wildfire. Our local firefighters noted that this support will be directed to the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1463, which will directly administer aid to survivors of the fire and firefighters who have been injured and lost their homes to it.
The Richmond firefighters urged community members to support the fund with donations, emphasizing that the citizens of Maui are in “desperate need of disaster aid and long term recovery support.”
