Andrew Wilke, devoted director of the Richmond High School Music Department, has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser aiming to send 10 student musicians to La Honda Music Camp in Hayward, which runs for one week next month in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The camp will enable students to “continue their musical growth through the summer and prepare to help lead and teach their fellow musicians in the coming year,” Wilke said.
“This will be my sixth year sending students to La Honda and it has truly proven to be a key point of transformation for our program and for the students,” he said.
Wilke said the summer camp features young musicians statewide learning under professionals, collegiate music professors and veteran school music teachers.
“Camp is truly a magical experience and has benefits that go far beyond the music classroom and the individual,” Wilke said. “Sending one student to camp motivates them and inspires them to reach new heights. The students we send come back to RHS in the Fall bringing that energy and focus to all of our music classes. This has led them to compete in competitions, march at Disneyland, the SF Chinese New Year Parade, and many other community events.”
Wilke expressed his gratitude to the community for supporting his students in the past.
