Richmond fire crews helped extricate an injured driver from a vehicle following a collision at Richmond Parkway and Pittsburg Ave. Monday night.
According to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, which posted about the incident on Facebook, firefighters responded to the area about 10:30 p.m. and found two vehicles off the roadway. One of the vehicles was “pinned on its side between a metal fence/metal storage containers, and the second vehicle,” the firefighters’ union said.
Two Richmond fire rescue companies, R67 and R68, were called to help extricate the trapped driver, who was suffering from major injuries, and successfully did so within about 10 minutes.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter airlifted the extricated victim to a hospital while the other victim, who suffered moderate injuries, was transported via ambulance, fire officials said.
The cause of the crash, which closed Richmond Parkway for about two hours, wasn’t immediately known.
