  1. It’s about to get a lot worse, due to the city council a majority of the officers are leaving Richmond for other agencies who pay more. So look out Richmond it’s goi f to get worse before better

  2. It’s hopefully not going to get a lot worse. I live just a few blocks from where this happened. It was a targeted shooting, and this kind of thing has not happened in my neighborhood for over 15 years. We had a wonderful police chief for years who turned things around with community policing and good employee morale. We’ve lost our way in the years since he left but our new acting Chief is good. She will get us back on track. Officers were leaving because of low morale, NOT salary, but I think now that will change rapidly. My fear is that there may be retaliatory shootings, but I hope not.

    • Really not salary. Ask the beat cops they will tell you the truth. Morale was a reason, but pay is the other. City council does not support the police like they should. Yes I think the new chief is good, but she can’t retain. Why work in Richmond when you can make way more at other agencies that have the support of the city.

  3. RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) — Two people are dead and one person was injured after a shooting Thursday afternoon in Richmond, police said. The shooting was reported around 4 p.m., according to the Richmond Police Department.

  4. This is a senseless tragedy, and I dearly hope we don’t become more like Oakland, which appears helpless to stop the mayhem, be it shootings or sideshows. But is low pay really the reason the department is understaffed? Starting salary for a police officer lateral hire with 2 years experience is $115,000 per year–more for shift work or language skills, etc. Public safety now consumes 60% of the city’s general fund budget. Including pensions and medical, most officers receive $300,000 per year in compensation. The city desperately needs a creative approach that doesn’t require sworn officers. For the twenty years I’ve lived in Richmond, the police department has always pleaded budget constraints–but there is precious little blood left in that turnip.

    • Well maybe Richmond can be absorbed by the sheriffs office, and there will be 4 deputies on at a time.

Bart and other local agencies pay way more than the $115,000 in which you speak and that’s gross. That does not include what they pay into medical and retirement. Cost of living is up, so hopefully you can figure out a world without Richmond Police and solve these issues.

I have lived in Richmond for 47 years and I will vote on anything for our fire and police.

  5. This is nothing new for richmomd . Shootings like this happen way more often than is reported on this chump change selective reporting ageny. Cops are leaving because the corruprion is too deep in richmond. The cops are out here banging and dealing harder than the criminals also there is officers that force prostitutes to work for them to avoid arrest. Richmond police will never be worth a dam as long as they have their dirty hands in the wrong pot. Remember when richmond PD officers were giving guns to highschool kids under the table in North richmomd to kill eachother because they couldnt handle the gangs in North.

  6. ITS SAD THE KIDS KILLING KIDS IVE BEEN HERE 45 YRS AND IT TAKES EVERYONE TO HELP THIS KIDS GETTING OFF THE STREETS AND TAKE THERE MINDS OFF OF GUNS COME ON NOTHING IS GOOD SO FAR. IT STARTS AT HOME LOVE YOUR KIDS AND SHOW THEM LOVE .GOD BLESS US.
