Richmond dance venue holding weeklong grand opening

Allegro Ballroom's main ballroom at its new facility at the Richmond/El Cerrito border.

When it comes to dance venues, Emeryville’s loss is Richmond’s gain.

Forced to relocate after 23 years in Emeryville due to a development project, Allegro Ballroom, owned and operated by Allegro Dancers, Inc., has found its new spacious home at 12012 San Pablo Ave., next to Grocery Outlet at the Richmond/El Cerrito border.

Described as an educational non-profit, public benefit dance club, Allegro Ballroom is holding a weeklong grand opening, offering free classes and parties from today through Friday. On Saturday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. with support from the Richmond Chamber of Commerce. After the ceremony, festivities that include a 25th Anniversary Celebration party will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Allegro Ballroom’s new digs features 12,000 square feet of new dance floors in five ballrooms. It’s home to top dance instructors and a full curriculum of dance classes, ongoing Tango, Salsa, West Coast Swing & Ballroom party venues, special events, private lessons, workshops, practice space and ballroom rentals.
