A recent robbery in the parking lot of the FoodsCo at 1250 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond is an example why residents should consider exchanging money for goods in the exchange zone at the Police Department, according to the Richmond Police Department.
In that recent incident, a Richmond resident met in the parking lot to sell a vehicle. After the transaction, three juveniles who witnessed the exchange assaulted the victim and took the money, police said.
In 2017, RPD unveiled an Community Exchange Zone at its headquarters at 1701 Regatta Blvd. as a way to prevent such incidents.
“The exchange zone is a safe place for you to meet for private party transactions and/or custody exchanges,” police said. “The zone is well-lit and under 24 hour video surveillance. You can find the zone marked in yellow.”
