Richmond Ferry ridership exceeds first month expectations
Passengers board the ferry via the Richmond terminal during the launch party and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019.

Weekend ferry service between Richmond and San Francisco will launch Aug. 3 as part of a summer pilot program, the Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) announced today.

That confirms Mayor Tom Butt’s recent report about the launch, but we further learned that weekend service is limited in that it is scheduled to end the first weekend of November.

WETA calls the weekend service a trial run. The trial was inspired by eclipsed expectations in ridership since weekday service launched in January.

Fares will match commute prices, including discounts for youth, senior and disabled passengers.
