Richmond mayor seeks suggestions for naming ferry terminal
The Richmond Ferry terminal is located next to the Craneway Pavilion, 1414 Harbour Way S.

UPDATE: Since this report was initially reported, WETA has confirmed that weekend ferry service will begin Aug. 3. However, service will be a trial run ending the first weekend of November.

Weekend Richmond Ferry service should begin starting in August, Richmond Mayor Tom Butt announced today.

The mayor, who long advocated for the new ferry terminal, which launched service in January, made the announcement in his e-forum newsletter.

“As a board member of both West Contra Costa Transportation Advisory Committee (WCCTAC) and Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA), I have been able to facilitate including the Richmond Pilot Summer Service..in the FY 2019/20 Measure J service budget,” the mayor wrote. ” The FY 2019/20 allocation was approved by CCTA Wednesday night… Based upon this, WETA will move forward with its contract service provider to begin gearing up to start service in August and will work to create marketing and outreach materials.”

The news of weekend service follows several reports since the Richmond Ferry’s launch of greater than expected ridership (see below).
