The first of two free-admission summer concerts in downtown Richmond takes place Wednesday, July 24, with Richmond’s own Zydeco King Andre Thierry and Soul and R&B band BeauFunk with Michael Jeffries taking the stage.
The 18th annual summer concert series, produced by Richmond Main Street Initiative (RMSI), will run from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Marina Way and Macondald Avenue, just a block from the Richmond BART Station.
Along with singing and dancing in the street, the even will feature family-friendly activities such as a youth zone, free book fair, giveaways and prizes. A beverage booth serving Main Street Margaritas and hometown brews by East Brother Beer Company will raise funds for RMSI. The event also features a diverse array of local artisan and food trucks.
Richmond Councilmember Jael Myrick will be the Grand Marshall of the event — a first for the concert series.
The second Music on the Main event will take place Wednesday, Aug. 28, same time and location, with performances from SambaFunk! and local favorite Latin Funk and Soul group GTS Band.
Music on the Main sponsors include Kaiser Permanente, Mechanics Bank, San Francisco Bay Ferry, Cooperative Federal Credit Union, LifeLong Medical Care, AC Transit, Republic Services, Chevron Richmond, Richmond Build, East Brother Beer Company, and City of Richmond. Additional support comes from volunteers and the Downtown Richmond Property and Business Improvement District (DRPBID).
