The East Bay Regional Park District issued a public safety warning as rising temperatures cause native rattlesnakes to emerge from hibernation.
Park users are advised to stay on designated paths and avoid walking through tall grass or placing hands and feet where they cannot see clearly.
It is recommended that visitors hike with a partner and keep all dogs on a leash to prevent dangerous encounters.
If a rattlesnake is spotted, individuals should move away slowly and allow the animal plenty of space.
In the event of a bite, victims should remain calm, keep the affected limb below the heart, and call 911 immediately for professional medical intervention.
