Joybound People and Pets will host a free pet vaccine and microchip clinic on Saturday, April 11 to assist local pet owners in maintaining the health and safety of their animals.
The event will take place at 325 Civic Center Plaza in Richmond, with services beginning at 9 a.m. Services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
The clinic offers essential vaccinations including Rabies and DAPP for dogs, as well as Rabies and FVRCP for cats. Microchips will also be available for both species to help ensure lost pets can be reunited with their families. In addition to medical services, the organization will distribute pet food while supplies last. Certain vaccines such as Canine Influenza, Leptospirosis, and Bordetella are not offered at this particular event.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between Joybound People and Pets, Contra Costa Animal Services, and the City of Richmond, with funding provided by Measure X, according to the event organizers.
To participate, pet guardians must be at least 18 years old and provide proof of residency in Contra Costa County. All animals must be at least six weeks of age to receive services. Safety protocols require that all dogs remain on leashes and all cats be kept in secure carriers throughout the duration of the event. Owners are encouraged to bring any existing vaccine records for their pets to help staff provide accurate care.
Animals will undergo a brief health screening before receiving any shots to ensure they are healthy enough for vaccination, though Joybound clarifies this is not a substitute for a full diagnostic exam. Pets showing signs of illness, such as coughing, sneezing, or vomiting, should remain at home to protect the health of other attendees.
The clinic is intended for owned pets only, as feral or community cats will not be served. Joybound People and Pets provides additional resources and low-cost veterinary support through their website for those unable to attend or requiring more comprehensive care.
